Typographical Notes

I’m a total dork for typography. TEXT BASED DESIGN FTW.

Since it’s Friday and we’ve all worked so hard this week, I thought I’d share some of the fun type-related sites that are making me happy these days. If you enjoy typography or design, hopefully these will give you some joy too.

Typography Fun

Everyone’s favourite Cape Breton Islander, Leah, shared this one yesterday.

  • It’s a fun site that provides you unique type for each letter that you enter. You can hover over the letter to read the history and origin.

I Shot the Serif

  • If you like playing Halo as much as you like fawning over typefaces, then this is the game for you.

I use parties as an excuse to play with fonts and type-based design.
These are from an Arrested Development party.

And for the Fellow Super Nerds

Kern Type: A Kerning Game

  • Yes that’s right. A GAME about kerning.

The Font is Right

  • Think you can recognize your favourite font? Prove it.

Have Fun!

I do some design for work (layout, typesetting, web, posters) and a little more on the side (wedding invitations, programs, greeting cards) so I’m always on the lookout for fun new fonts and ways to think about type. If you have any interesting sites to suggest, let me know!
