I’m big on gifts with purpose. I love to give and receive items with major useability factors. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m working hard to be mindful about being a consumer. This means limiting purchases of “things” and also being conscious of where my spending dollars go. When the Local Dine Deck became available for pre-order for 2015, it was a no-brainer for me to re-up and order a pack for a second year.
And, yes, this was a gift for myself (wanna make something of it?), but it’s an indulgence that fits my goals.
If you aren’t familiar, Local Dine Deck is a card deck of discounts to local restaurants in the Halifax and Dartmouth areas. Over the past year, I used my cards as a way to experience a number of restaurants at which I hadn’t previously eaten. It was also nice to take advantage of the deals for some of my favourite and regular places to dine.
Admittedly, I still have a good handful of cards that I haven’t yet been able to make use of. Fortunately, I have friends who will gladly take them off my hands! It’s a fabulous intersection of the spirits of paying it forward and supporting local businesses!
It’s that time of year when we’re all scrambling to get meaningful and interesting gifts for our loved ones. If you’re looking for a “doing” gift that supports our community, this is one of my best suggestions.
